Institute for Local Government

ILG is a nonprofit organization that has served and supported California’s local government leaders for over 65 years. Together, we work hand-in-hand with local agency staff and elected officials to build a strong foundation of good government at the local level, centered on trust, accountability, responsiveness, and transparency. ILG also partners with state agencies and community-based organizations that want to engage with local governments in a meaningful way. ILG is the official nonprofit affiliate of the League of California Cities, the California State Association of Counties, and the California Special Districts Association. This unique relationship allows us to keep a pulse on the specific needs, challenges, and opportunities facing local governments statewide. While based on Sacramento, we have both a network of local government expertise to draw upon, as well as a statewide platform to share resources, best practices, and lessons learned. We regularly communicate with more than 2,500 local agencies, which provide the vast majority of local government leadership throughout the state. Our areas of expertise include Workforce Development, Leadership & Governance, Sustainable & Resilient Communities and Public Engagement. We will gladly lend our expertise to this important work.
