Justice-Involved Fire Service Planning Project

Justice-Involved Fire Service Planning Project

Award Date - Round Two: July 24, 2025

Awarded Amount - $350,000

Future Fire Academy (FF-A) proposes the Justice-Involved Fire Service Planning Project to address two critical challenges in the Capital Region, the persistent lack of equitable career pathways for justice-involved individuals, and the urgent need for a skilled workforce in firefighting and climate-resilient public safety. This pre-development project aims to design and pilot a scalable, trauma-informed program that equips underserved populations with the certifications, skills, and wraparound supports required for quality employment in firefighting, forestry, fuels management, and emergency medical services (EMS); these sectors align with California’s Priority Tradable Industry Sector, Working Lands, and the Opportunity Tradable Industry Sector, Healthcare, underscoring the project’s relevance to regional economic and environmental priorities.
