Growing Quality Working Lands Jobs: Last-Mile Development of the Yolo Food Hub to Benefit Rural Agricultural Workers, Small Farms and Food Businesses

Strengthening small farms and food businesses for a sustainable tomorrow.

Through this project, New Season Community Development Corporation will carry out last-mile activities, including planning, design, development and community engagement, to prepare to fully launch the Yolo Food Hub. The Yolo Food Hub is made up of a collaborative network of local farmers, farm advisors, businesses and other nonprofit organizations working together to improve the economic vitality and long-term sustainability of small to midsized farms and food businesses in Yolo County and throughout the Sacramento Valley. Project objectives include: building staff and organizational capacity to fully launch the Yolo Food Hub and establish it as an independent entity; completing planning and feasibility work for a new processing center that will give farms a new source of revenue from value-added products and help launch and expand small food businesses; and providing group trainings and one-on-one consultations to help farms and food businesses create more quality jobs and increase pathways to quality jobs.

Project partners will engage historically marginalized populations in project planning and design to advance quality job creation and economic mobility for members of historically marginalized and disinvested communities, including small-scale farmers, food entrepreneurs, and food system/farm workers.  Yolo Food Hub Network partners, particularly Spork Food Hub and Capay Valley Farm Shop will assist with project implementation.
